The Video Games and English Project (VGEP) is the PhD investigation of Emma Caputo that aims to research online video game play and L2 English speaking skills, while respecting participant privacy and safety through exclusive use offree software. This project is part of the realTIC research group at the University of Barcelona and funded by FundaciĆ³ "La Caixa".
Our objective is to test for the existence of a statistically significant correlation between L2 English online gaming and higher spoken English proficiency. We seek to provide empirical support for the notion that informal language acquisition occurs through extramural online gaming experiences.
In early 2024, VGEP will conduct a study on L2 English speech among frequent online gamers and non gamers of similar demographics. We are looking for participants online and in Spain.
